It’s one of the easier parts of the HVAC system to take for granted because it stays hidden from sight behind walls and in the attic. But damage to the ductwork can put a serious dent in your comfort, whether it’s winter or summer.

Right now, you rely heavily on your AC. If your ductwork has air leaks anywhere, you’ll end up with a much less effective air conditioner and one that is more expensive to operate. Fixing this problem requires professional duct sealing services—you can’t seal the ducts on your own with duct tape! (Duct tape isn’t even designed for use on ducts, but that’s a story for another post…)

We recently wrote about the problems with leaky air ducts, but this leads to a another question: How can you tell you need duct sealing if you can’t see your ducts? There are several signs to look out for that will warn you, and we’ll go into greater detail about them here. When you notice these problems, call us to see if you need duct sealing in Yakima, WA.

Unexpectedly high utility bills

Leaky air ducts are like a thief hiding in your walls and in the attic: they draw away the money you pay to heat and cool your house. Up to 30% of the air moving through the ductwork can escape because of leaks, and that’s air you’ve already paid to heat or cool. Essentially, you’re paying to heat or cool the attic or the spaces between the walls! When you see a dramatic increase in your utility bills during the height of summer or winter and you can’t account for it … you may need duct sealing.

Musty and moldy odors from the vents

The leaks in air ducts open up on areas of the house that are filled with dusty and sometimes moldy air. As the air inside the ducts escapes, the dust or mold spores will end up being sent around the house. When you notice a distinct musty, dusty, or moldy odor from the vents … you may need duct sealing.

An increase in indoor humidity

Proper ventilation and air circulation are key to maintaining balanced humidity inside your house. Duct leakage will throw all that off, drawing moist air from places like the attic into the ducts. If you start to notice your house feels more humid than usual when the HVAC system is running … you may need duct sealing.

Rattling sounds from the ventilation system

Any damage to the ductwork can result in the ducts creating rattling noises. The metal sections of the ducts change size as they heat up and cool down, and if sections are loose because of gapping, the ducts will shake around. When the ducts start to make noises you don’t expect from them … you may need duct sealing.

We can take care of sealing the leaks on your ducts and restoring your HVAC system to its best operating condition. Call us to investigate the trouble you’re having and we’ll see if you need your ducts sealed.

Call ThermAll Heating & Cooling, Inc: We are “Your Home Comfort Hero!”

[79
92,87
post-468","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-indoor-air-quality-service","tag-duct-sealing","tag-yakima
["GET
