The city enjoys a quiet and friendly atmosphere at the top of the Yakima Valley. With their pro-business community, they have a wonderful economic development committee to attract and grow enterprises in Tieton. Looking towards their future, Tieton has grown the community by sponsoring art exhibits, antique shows, educational retreats, and special events. A collection of nearby wineries, cideries, and gourmet food companies add to Tieton’s appeal. The citizens are also developing a trail circuit for mountain bikers that complement their outdoor attractions.
In recent years, Tieton has suffered economic depression, with the decline of its fruit warehouses. As of 2007, a Seattle lawyer and the founding president of the art publishing house Marquand Books have been investing in the city and attempting to revive it, with a project called “Mighty Tieton.”
